Sclera
If you're..
20-50 yr old
a female
have rheumatoid arthritis
herpes zoster
and gout.
One fine day, you found yourself having a
sectional salmon pink,
watery eye
with
irritations,
mild to no pain.
AND, photophobic.
Congrats, you may have just gotten simple episcleritis.
But don't worry, it is self-limiting. Just 7-14days, and you will recover :):)
However, if you kena,
a sectional purplish eye,
with
more irritations,
more watery,
very sensitive to light.
As well as a movable nodule on your eye,
and then you're tender to palpation.
Then you got a nodular episcleritis.
It is self-limiting as well though, but it takes longer to recover. Like, hmm. 1-3months!
For the above two you can use eyedrops and cold compresses to relief pain.
Moving on..
If you're
a female
an elderly
have rheumatoid arthritis
herpes
You were sleeping and suddenly woah, a severe pain in the eye, on your eyebrow, forehead and jaw woke you up :(
Then you found out that aiya, suddenly cannot see clearly (decreased VA), photophobic (photophobia), and your eye very watery (lacrimination).
Besides that, your eye became bluish-red and there is also swelling (scleral oedema)!
Aww, you just kena scleritis.
4 types.
1) Diffuse ant. scleritis. Most benign form.
2) Nodular ant. scleritis. Immovable nodule.
3) Necrotizing scleritis. W/ inflammation : Pain, scleral thinning, visible choroidal pigments.
4) Necrotizing scleritis. W/o inflammation. No symptoms.
3 + 4 are rare, sight threatening and high systemic association.

Conjunctiva
If you..
have poor general health
are suffering from stress
use steroids and antibiotics chronically
have systemic diseases
long term under a polluted area
have STDs
suffering malnutrition
have poor hygiene
You're prone to get conjunctivitis :D
When you get that, you could find yourself having..
irritations,
burning sensation,
foreign body sensation,
itch
in your poor eye. (Aww)
Conjunctival reactions
1) Hyperaemia - Beefy red or pink eye.
2) Subconjunctival haemorrhage
3) Oedema/Chemosis
4) Scarring
5) Follicles
6) Papillae
7) Membranes - Pseudo or true
8) Lymphadenopathy
1.
Now.
One fine day, you had a sudden redness in your eye, there's grittiness, and burning sensation with yellowish mucopurulent discharge. Your eyelids were stuck upon wakening. At first, it was one eye and then 1, 2 days later. Your other eye also kena the same thing.
Hohoho, you got acute bacterial conjunctivitis.
Don't know how the hell, you got stapylococcus aureus or haempophilus influenzae. Maybe it is because you anyhow touch touch things w/o knowing that they have infected secretions.
Anyways, in an optom's view.
Your lids are crusted and oedematos.
Your conjunctiva is beefy red with papillae
There's SPK at your cornea.
They have to rule out your corneal involvement or you may go blind.
However.. it is self-limiting, takes about 5-10days to recover. You can take antibiotics to fasten the pace. And please practice meticulous hygiene!
2.
You just had sex last night. You woke up and you found your eyes having severe foreign body sensation and throbbing eye pain.
Great. Now you just got yourself hyperacute bacteria conjunctival that's caused by neisseria gonorrhoeae.
You're having an extremely hyperaemic conjunctiva with purulent discharge. There's also lid and conjunctiva oedema and pseudomembrane formation. And fantastic! The end stage of this infection is corneal perforation! :D
MX: Immediate referal. And please check if your partner has STDs before having sex. TSK.
3.
Same, you had sex last night. And now you are having a red eye with discharge. You got chamydial, caused by chamydial trachomatis.
1) Conjuncticval hyperaemia with follicles.
2) Peripheral corneal infiltrates
3) Pannus : neovascularisation -> scarring
MX: Refer
4.
You stay in ulu, dirty place with flies everywhere.
Trachoma.
Chamydial trachomatis.
Chronic conjunctival inflammation
Arlt lines,
Herbert's pits.
Loss of goblet cells.
I'm feeling lazy already. SHAKES HEAD- /:
